Did you know?

The first Tervuren was registered with the AKC in 1918. The  variety  designation Tervuren, 
owes its name to the Belgian village of Tervuren. The Tervuren  were literally recreated 
after World War II (1939-1945), from the longhaired puppies in Malinois 
 litters and the fawn-grey puppies in the Groenendael litters.

In  North America prior to 1959, the Belgian Tervuren were registered and shown as a
Belgian Sheepdog.  In 1959  the AKC granted the breed separate breed classification 
designating the Belgian Tervuren as a distinct breed.
